About Flywrite

Brian Casel (that's me, hi) created Flywrite — a markdown writing app for Mac with a real terminal built in, so you can write alongside Claude Code, Codex, or any CLI agent without living in a code editor.

Why I built it

I make my living writing: newsletters, YouTube scripts, courses. And these days, Claude Code is my collaborator on nearly all of it.

But I never liked creating in a code editor. Cursor and VS Code are built for shipping software, not prose — writing there means squinting at raw markdown in a tool designed for a completely different job.

So I built the writing experience I actually wanted: calm and paper-like where I write, a real terminal right below it where my agent assists, and everything quietly checkpointed and backed up to GitHub. That app became Flywrite, and it's where I do my own writing every day.

What else I do

I've been building and bootstrapping software products for over a decade. Alongside Flywrite, I run Builder Methods, where I teach software builders how to build with AI through courses, videos, and a community. You can follow me at @casjam.
