Flywrite

Licenses & devices

Every Flywrite seat comes with one license key. You paste the key into the Flywrite Mac app on first launch, and it unlocks the app on that device. This page covers how keys, devices, and lapsed licenses work.

License keys

Your license key lives in your account: everyone sees their own key on the License page (the first page after signing in), and owners can also see every seat's key on the Seats & Team page. You never need to memorize it โ€” if you lose it, just sign in and copy it again.

Devices

Activations belong to one person: a seat is a per-person license, not a shared pool. Your activated devices are listed on your License page.

Activating another device

Install Flywrite on the new Mac and paste in the same license key when the app asks for it โ€” activation is instant.

Deactivating a device

Replacing an old Mac? Sign in, find the device on your License page, and deactivate it. Flywrite stops working on that device immediately, and you can activate a new one.

One rule to know: each device can be deactivated once per 30 days. This prevents a single key from being rotated between many machines, while still making it easy to genuinely move to a new computer.

Renaming devices

Devices show up with their machine name. You can rename them from your License page ("Work iMac", "Travel laptop") so it's obvious which is which.

When a license lapses

A subscription license stays valid while your subscription is active. If a renewal payment fails, your license enters a grace period during which the app remains fully functional, and we email you a link to fix the payment. See Billing & invoices for details.

If the subscription ends โ€” canceled or unrecovered โ€” the Flywrite app switches to read-only mode. Your files are never locked up: Flywrite documents are plain markdown files on your disk, so you can always view them, export them, or open them in any other editor. Read-only mode only means the Flywrite app itself won't edit them.

Renewing your subscription instantly restores editing โ€” no reinstall, no re-activation, nothing to reconfigure.
